Children with potential Autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) or Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), will now be referred to the Neurodevelopmental Pathway (NDP) Multi-Disciplinary Team. The NDP service will accept referrals for:
Children registered with a Birmingham GP
- 2.5 years to 16 years (ASD)
- 5 years and above (ADHD)
Where there are concerns with:
- Social, communication and emotional functioning (for assessment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD))
- Concentration, hyperactivity and impulse control (for assessment of attention deficity hyperactivity disorder (ADHD))
Those with moderate to severe learning disabilities (who attend special schools) are not suitable for this pathway and we recommend referring to Forward Thinking Birmingham for assessment if a neurodevelopmental condition is being considered.
The service is delivered in ‘non-hospital’ settings across the City by specialist Doctors (community paediatricians) in partnership with other providers which will enable children to achieve their optimum health and reduce the impact of illness on their health and wellbeing.
Community Paediatrics operates a policy for new referrals to be seen within 18 weeks in line with the National Referral to Treatment targets.
