ADHD: Following a diagnosis - information for parents and carers
First appointment
At the first appointment, we meet with the child and family and ensure all understand the diagnosis, answer any questions that they may have and provide written information or signposting to other agencies or services as needed.
We also offer medication, particularly where the ADHD is more severe or is causing considerable educational or emotional harm. The team offer a prescribing service, which means that we can issue prescriptions for children in our service for ADHD medications.
Follow-up appointments
Where medication is used, the child will be seen regularly by an ADHD specialist nurse who monitors any therapeutic or possible side effects of this, liaises with the school and works with the child and family on agreed outcomes and areas of most concern.
If medication's not required, a future appointment will still be made. Discussed again are medications and the other options available to you.
Virtual ADHD Information Session for Parents
We would like to invite you to a Virtual ADHD information day for Parents.
The next Virtual ADHD Information day is Friday 19th April, 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.
This may be of particular interest if your child has a recent diagnosis of ADHD or you wish to learn more about it.
If you would like to sign up to one of the sessions (held currently 4 times a year), please download and return the ADHD information day registration form. We look forward to meeting you.
