BCHC Plus

Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

BCHC Plus offers schools and other settings the opportunity to buy additional dedicated school nurse time to address school health needs that lie beyond the scope of the core service.

The overall aim of the SEND Locality teams is to ensure that pupils with additional needs gain access to a broad, balanced and relevant education, whilst also having their exceptional needs met in as inclusive a way as possible.

Practices across settings will be enhanced through access to OT and SaLT expertise via the professional development framework for teachers and support staff.

The OT and SaLT, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, will provide specialist support to schools, early years settings and families for pupils identified as having SEND.

Effective links will be provided with wider health services to enhance support and signposting for families.

Effective working relationships will be developed and maintained with parents/carers and other stakeholders.

The service will:

  • Provide strategic advice to schools and early years settings in Birmingham to plan provision for pupils with additional needs through attendance at multi-agency planning meetings and drop in sessions for educational professionals.
  • Provide advice and strategies to schools and early years settings in Birmingham about individual pupils with complex needs and signpost to appropriate services when required through drop in sessions and consultations with schools.
  • Contribute to the measurement of outcomes and service evaluation in conjunction with the SEND Locality teams.
  • Provide home-based information, advice and strategies to parents through parent drop in sessions for clusters of schools and parents
  • Develop information packages and training for education staff and parents.
  • Attend regular meetings with staff from the SEND Locality team to support early identification of need, ensuring specialist help through locality forums.

Our patients and their carers and families are the reason we're here, so we want to hear your views about the Trust and our services.
