Richard Kirby

Richard Kirby

Richard Kirby: chief executive

Richard joined BCHC as our chief executive in March 2018 bringing 20 years of NHS management and leadership experience in Birmingham and the Black Country.  A graduate of the NHS Management Training Scheme, Richard began his career supporting the development of GP commissioning in Birmingham. After a series of posts in commissioning, strategy and performance management, he moved to Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust where he led the development of new models of care and service configuration changes initially as Director of Strategy and, then,  as Chief Operating Officer. Most recently Richard was chief executive of Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust for seven years leading the integration of hospital and community health services and building effective partnerships with stakeholders to support integrated care.

 

Richard and his family live in Birmingham and is passionate about the development of integrated community services that help people stay well and independent. Richard says: “It is a real privilege to be able to lead my local specialist community trust and to make a difference of families and communities”.

Michelle Alli

Michelle Alli

Michelle Alli: chief governance officer

With a background in retail leadership and legal services, Michelle Alli leads corporate governance for BCHC. Michelle is an experienced healthcare governance professional, with extensive senior leadership experience. She is also a law graduate with more than 15 years' experience in clinical quality, safety and governance in both the NHS and private sector.

 

Michelle is passionate about creating successful organisations, and delivering safe, high quality care for the communities we serve. With deep family roots in Birmingham, she is proud of the work teams in Birmingham Community Healthcare are doing to ensure we are Fit for 2022.

 

Roles and responsibilities: corporate governance, risk management, legal services, governors and membership, freedom of information and freedom to speak up safely.

Dr Suzanne Cleary

Suzanne Cleary

Dr Suzanne Cleary: chief officer - strategy and partnerships

Suzanne has worked for BCHC since June 2019 and within the NHS for 21 years, with 10 years at Executive Director level, in NHS commissioning, specialist acute and community organisations.Suzanne has a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Warwick and a lifelong interest in research, innovation and quality improvement as a result.

 

Throughout her NHS career, Suzanne has been focused on improving health and health services and is driven to transform the opportunities that local people have to live happy and healthy lives. Her naturally collaborative style enables Suzanne to be highly effective as a system leader; focused on improving health outcomes by developing strategic, evidence-based plans and translating these into transformational change, shaped by local people and delivered through partnership working.

Dr Robbie Dedi

Dr Robbie Dedi

Dr Robbie Dedi: chief medical officer

Robbie is the newest member of the board, having joined in December 2023. He brings extensive experience in a range of senior NHS roles across community, acute and mental health services.

 

In his previous role as Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Wye Valley NHS Trust, Robbie was responsible for community and acute services. His portfolio included patient safety, clinical job planning, clinical leadership and partnership building across integrated health systems and all with the needs of the patient at the core. His clinical background is as an acute physician and nephrologist.

 

Robbie has also gained considerable experience through senior clinical leadership positions in a number of other NHS Trusts, where he had success in developing a virtual ward model and strengthening clinical governance across community hospitals

Lorraine Galligan

Lorraine Galligan

Lorraine Galligan - chief of nursing and therapies

Lorraine brings over 30 years’ experience in nursing and nursing leadership to the role, having begun training at Selly Oak Hospital. She joined Birmingham’s Community Trust in 1996, working as a Community Staff Nurse at Yardley Green Medical Centre. More recently, Lorraine has been BCHC’s Deputy Chief Nurse, following previous leadership posts in Adult Community Services and Nursing and Therapies.

 

Lorraine has also been appointed as a Queen’s Nurse, a prestigious accolade which recognises her contribution to Community Health Services. Additional qualifications include Specialist Practitioner in District Nursing and a Master’s in Healthcare Leadership.

Chris Holt

Chris Holt

Chris Holt: chief transformation officer

Chris joined BCHC from Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, an integrated acute and community health trust, where he served as director of strategy & transformation and deputy chief executive.

Prior to this role, Chris was chief operating officer for three years and, before that, chief operating officer at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust following the Francis inquiry and throughout the administration process.

Before joining the NHS, Chris spent a number of years working with healthcare organisations across both primary and secondary care in England and Scotland as well as roles across the private and public sectors, including working for KPMG, Atos and Alstom Transport.

David Holmes

David Holmes

David Holmes: chief people officer

David began his role as Director of HR at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust in March 2012 and now leads the Workforce and Organisational Development portfolio as Chief People Officer. David commenced his NHS career in acute specialist provider organisations in Sheffield in 1991.  He later moved to Birmingham and occupied the role of Director of HR at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for a number of years before leading a number of workforce projects at the Regional Workforce Deanery.  In 2013 David also took on the role of Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) Vice President for the West Midlands and later became one of three National HPMA Deputy Presidents.

 

David is involved in the people work programme in the integrated care system and at national level and is also a Governor of Birmingham Virtual Schools.

Reva Stewart

Reva Stewart

Reva Stewart: chief operating officer

Reva brings extensive experience in NHS community services, including a number of senior leadership roles.

Since qualifying as a nurse in 1988, Reva has developed a substantial career in community, acute and mental health services. Recent roles include chief operating officer at Lincolnshire Community Health Services and divisional director for community health at Berkshire Healthcare Trust. Reva has earlier managerial responsibility for adult and complex children's services in Bradford.

Reva is committed to improving outcomes for patients and addressing health inequalities.

Ian Woodall

Ian Woodall

Ian Woodall: chief finance officer

Ian joined the board of directors at Birmingham Community Healthcare in April 2019, having spent two years working as the Trust’s Director of Finance and Procurement.  Ian has over 25 years’ experience gained in a variety of NHS provider and commissioning organisations, with 10 years at Board level.

 

Ian is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

 

Roles / Responsibilities: as Chief Finance Officer, Ian is responsible for finance, performance, information and contracting.
