The awards recognised individuals and teams who had showed outstanding commitment to the Trust’s values, it also put the spotlight on the unsung heroes and superstars within our divisions and directorates. Exceptional leaders and teams were also recognised through the ‘team of the year’ and ‘leader of the year’ awards. For the second time, a Chair’s Award was announced in special recognition of high quality care, innovation, living by our values and persistence.

Congratulations also go to our finalists and all other nominees – more than 500 nominations were made in this year’s awards.

The Trust would like to thank our sponsors for this year's event:

VIP Awards Ceremony about to begin

In opening the evening, Chair Professor David Sallah emphasised the achievement of all the finalists:

You have all been nominated by your colleagues or service users — that is a tremendous tribute to you as individuals and teams - and in that sense you truly are, of course all winners.

He went on to recognise colleagues outside of the room by saying:

I know very well that the many stories of the wonderful work delivered by our finalists are just part of the story. Delivering the very Best Care day in, day out, which supports us to build Healthy Communities is driven by the commitment of many more people in Team BCHC. We, the Board, are in constant admiration of the dedication and commitment shown by our BCHC colleagues — so I would like to say a huge thank you to all our staff.

Chief Executive Richard Kirby, during his closing comments, added:

The stories we've heard tonight have been truly inspirational. The people you work with; the people you care for - the way you are - can make such a difference. We’ve heard about the difference you’ve made to children in care; to people at the end of their life; to people in prison; people with a learning disability; we’ve heard stories about preventative public health, such as immunisation; of specialist treatment, in our dental and rehabilitation teams. I want you all to know how much your work is appreciated. Congratulations and ‘thank you’ to every one of our finalists and winners but, really, to everyone in Team BCHC.
