Peer Vaccinator celebration event

A group of BCHC Peer Vaccinators gathered at Moseley Hall Hospital to celebrate the success of this year’s winter vaccination campaign.

Opened by Lorraine Galligan, Chief of Nursing and Therapies, Peer Vaccinators were thanked for their efforts in offering and administering vaccinations to our staff members, helping to keep themselves and their fellow colleagues and patients safe.

On top of their substantive roles, a total of 55 vaccinators gave over half of the flu vaccines administered by the Trust.

Overall, the team had accumulated 92 hours of their time to protect Team BCHC. Lorraine shared:

“You have all made such a huge difference.”

Peer Vaccinators based themselves across a variety of Trust sites, including Birmingham Dental Hospital, Moseley Hall Hospital, Priestley Wharf, West Heath Hospital, West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre, as well as Community bases to ensure that all colleagues had the opportunity to take up their free winter vaccinations.

Jane Heron, Infection Prevention and Control Matron (pictured left) reported on how the Trust had seen a 5% uptake in flu vaccinations from the previous year, a trend that was not always seen across the UK.

As well as celebrating, the group took the opportunity to collaborate on what worked well and what more they could do to improve the Peer Vaccinator and staff vaccination experience, as well as improving on the total vaccination figure this coming year.
