Making Team BCHC more inclusive

BCHC’s first Reasonable Adjustments (RA) Portal has recently launched, minimising barriers for our disabled colleagues.

At Team BCHC, we want all colleagues to feel valued and thrive in their roles, which is why we have recently set up our RA Portal, reinforcing our commitment to reducing inequalities.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team and the Disability Neurodiversity Staff Network pioneered the Portal, making it easier for line managers and colleagues to submit online requests for a reasonable workplace adjustment.

Reasonable adjustments are changes or modifications that remove or reduce disadvantages faced by individuals with disabilities or health conditions. An example of a reasonable adjustment could be adjustments to a colleague’s equipment like desk chairs or keyboards, or even assistive technology like ADHD/Dyslexic friendly software.

The new online Portal means requests will now be managed and processed quicker, causing minimal delays and supporting colleagues better to do their job.

Martine Rai, Reasonable Adjustment Co-ordinator said:

“The RA Portal will support us to adequately respond and support colleagues with reasonable adjustment requests which will enable us to embed disability inclusion.”

The team will be holding multiple sessions on how to use the Portal in the coming months.

Our patients and their carers and families are the reason we're here, so we want to hear your views about the Trust and our services.
