Bladder and Bowel Service give awareness talk at Hall Green temple
Our Bladder and Bowel Service were recently invited to community temple in Hall Green to talk about bladder and bowel health. This was an opportunity for the service to reach out to the community and talk about what is believed a taboo subject. The aim was to provide an awareness session for individuals to spot the signs and symptoms associated with bladder and bowel conditions and how they can prevent and treat such conditions.
Following the awareness session participants were broken into smaller groups to talk about gender specific health and wellbeing subjects. In the men's groups topics spoken about included the prostate and guidance around testicular cancer awareness. In the women’s groups topics discussed included issues following childbirth, mental health and healthy lifestyles (such as diet an exercise). This provided a safe environment for individuals to feel at ease when talking about their bladder and bowel concerns on a one-to-one basis.
The feedback from the temple was that the session was well-received and had a positive impact on all the participants. Due to its success, our Bladder and Bowel Service have extended the invite to hold one-to-one sessions at the temple (on a quarterly basis) to provide continued support and advice.
