First In Memory Plaque Placed on Wall of Tributes

A red brick short wall with 2 bronze plaques; one detailing the Wall of Tributes, the other in memory of Jane Lapsley

The first in memory plaque has been placed on BCHC Charity’s Wall of Tributes in the Garden of Reflection at Moseley Hall Hospital, celebrating the life of Team BCHC member Jane Lapsley who sadly passed away in November 2018.

A group of staff stand around the Wall of TributesJane worked with the Trust for over 25 years, most recently within the BCHC Learning and Development Team as a Lead Assessor for NVQ’s for Customer Care and Business Admin, where she also provided support to new assessors. At the same time, she was also appointed Senior Trainer, which involved co-ordinating and organising a fleet of mandatory and role specific training for the Trust. Jane was also involved in the delivery of training on subjects such as fire, manual handling, customer care and food safety, to name a few. Jane was a well-loved and highly valued member of the Learning and Development Team, and her passing was felt keenly by her colleagues.

Members of the team approached the charity to discuss a way in which Jane’s memory could be commemorated on site, and their ideas were worked into the plans for the Garden of Reflection. The garden provides a place for families and colleagues to remember their loved ones, as well as those who dedicated themselves to caring for our community throughout the life of the NHS, with both the Wall of Tributes and the beautiful dandelion statue centrepiece honouring those we have loved and lost.

Jane’s in memory plaque was placed on the Wall of Tributes and unveiled in a ceremony on Wednesday 16 October, in which colleagues and friends gathered to share memories and stories, and to commemorate the life of a companion and co-worker truly missed.

Wendy Muhammad, a Trainer and Assessor in the team, said, “I hope that Jane will be proud to know that her plaque will be the first, but not the last, to be put in place along the wall in the memorial garden, to allow family, relatives, colleagues, and friends an opportunity to come and have some quiet reflection.

Rose reads a poem in front of the Wall of Tributesl would like to extend my gratitude to BCHC Charity for organising the ceremony, and Estates who arranged for the plaque to be engraved and installed. Thank you everyone, and here's to you, Jane. Forever in our thoughts.”

Rose Baldwin, another Trainer and Assessor within the team, wrote a poem which she read at the ceremony, as Jane always appreciated reading her works:

As a team your support and kindness

We will always treasure

To work alongside our friend

Was always a pleasure

Those little stories that you told

Make us giggle still

The flood and the kettle floating away

That was simply brill

Though many years have passed by now

Remembered you’ll always be

It is with great honour and respect

This plaque we donate to thee
