Develop your career with a BCHC apprenticeship

Are you looking to develop your career? An apprenticeship with BCHC could be the perfect place to start. With apprenticeships available across all of our services, both clinical and non-clinical and for new and substantive recruits.

Clinical Service Manager, Susie Cockburn began her apprenticeship journey as part of the customer service cohort in December 2022 after being nominated by her colleagues to apply.

Feeling apprehensive at first, Susie then saw what the apprenticeship programme could do for her, as she explains: “Once I started, I saw that both my apprenticeship and learning group was brilliant and had a big mixture of people who’s experience levels varied. I have learnt a lot about myself during this journey, I am better at receiving feedback, much more self aware and more importantly, it has helped me focus on service users in more depth. I have always dealt with complaints, but I am now able to look at issues from a business perspective and resolve them immediately to improve service users experience with BCHC.

“The tutors at Moseley Hall Hospital go above and beyond for all the apprentices, they want the best for everyone and really invest in your development and success. The lessons are never boring and always have a fun aspect touching on all types of learning.

“I would absolutely recommend an apprenticeship, the opportunities are endless, there are so many different routes and options, and you get protected time for course work. I was also able to shadow many other roles and receive exposure to the many services BCHC offer.

“I think apprenticeships are not taken up enough, it is a great opportunity and can lead to lots. Not only this – if you are already employed by BCHC you will still get your wage and you can be any age.”

Communication and engagement officer Amba FellowsCommunications and engagement officer Amba Fellows began her career as a level 3 social media apprentice for the communications team back in 2015 after finding out about the programme through her mom. After finishing college, Amba wasn’t too sure what she wanted to do with her future but completing an apprenticeship with BCHC opened a journey she never knew existed.

Amba who’s now been with the Trust for almost ten years said: “my apprenticeship was the best thing I have ever done career wise. It has opened many doors, and I would not have achieved what I have both personally and in the workplace without it. Upon starting, I was nervous that I wouldn’t get to do much, but my team gave me every opportunity possible and took the time to not only help me create new skills but embrace those that I already had. I was given responsibility, fantastic projects and each member of the team really took the time to become a friend and teach me all they know about communications. Apprenticeship manager, Alex Kustas was also there for my entire journey offering support and advice when needed and even to this day shows pride at what I, and other apprentices have achieved.

“The transition from education to full time employment was smooth, all my worries were eradicated, and I excelled more than I could have ever imagined, and it is all thanks to BCHC and the apprenticeship programme.

“If you are unsure of what career path to take, I would highly recommend checking out some of the apprenticeship opportunities BCHC offer, who knows, it could change your life too!”
