Making a Difference for Our Patients

The charity mascot, a blue star called Nova, wavesThe Birmingham Community Healthcare (BCHC) NHS Foundation Trust Charity is an official NHS charity registered with the Charity Commission under the Registered Charity Number 1069427 to raise and receive legacies and donations for Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

 

Our Mission

BCHC Charity exists to enhance patient care, improve their experience and support our Team BCHC staff to deliver top quality care by funding research, projects, and items that are not provided as part of core NHS funding.

 

What does this mean?

NHS core funding provides the things that BCHC needs to operate, such as staff, buildings to work from, utilities, and essential equipment to care for our community. NHS charities like ours provide the things that bring a smile to our patients and service users, improving their experience whilst under BCHC care, and supporting our colleagues to deliver that care. This can range from small items like books, toys, and games, all the way up to large projects such as our green gym at Moseley Hall Hospital. 

Here are just a few examples of how BCHC Charity has improved patient care over the years:

  • Installing a therapeutic playground at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre so that children with prosthetic limbs can build up their confidence through play
  • ‘Stay at Home’ activity packs for Learning Disabilities service users during COVID-19 lockdowns, to help them adapt to the changes in their routines brought on by community centre closures and lack of social contact
  • Interactive gaming stations at the Birmingham Dental Hospital to help reduce anxiety and alleviate stress for those waiting for appointments
  • Communication aids for the Inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Unit at Moseley Hall Hospital to help patients communicate with their clinicians, as well as assisting in assessing patient progress
